Essence of Assisi

Paintings I did in the latest online art course. It was an oil painting course...wet-on-wet, but because I have taken similar courses in that style, I used acrylics instead and enjoy using them more. The course was by Chris Brandley Art.

~ Essence of Assisi ~

"San Rufino"

"La Vita Dolce"

"Doggie in the Window"

"Impressions of Assisi"

"Golden Hour"

There were a few others that didn't turn out as well so I won't post them. I do believe taking these art courses is making me a better painter, though. There's always something to learn. It's also a great way to know what you like and what's fun to paint. What others think in the facebook groups doesn't matter as everyone has different opinions. I love seeing how unique each artist is and has their own recognizable style. I begin a new course early January with the same artist, Chris Brandley. It lasts one year so we'll have a month to work on each lesson and art challenges. Happy Painting!

A Stroll Through Sanctuary Garden

"A Stroll Through Sanctuary Garden"
11 x 14 acrylic on wood panel painted black.

This was a challenge but I loved doing it!
I painted this in one session - an hour and 1/4.
Longer than that and I get weary and a little sloppy.
I know when to stop. However it turns out, I'm happy with. I like to paint wet on wet rather than work on it again when it's dry. It loses something and the energy changes. I have to keep this...I really love it.
Maybe I'll start painting duplicates should people take interest...in the meantime I'll be wondering what I'll be in the mood to paint next! :)

"Carnival Time"

"Carnival Time"
12 x 12 acrylic on wood panel.

This was my painting for a lesson this week.
We had to choose one of our favorite "places."
A place that brings us joy.
I have several but glad I chose this one,
as many are "going to the beach!"
This style I'm taking lessons in is a "wonky" style meaning, "perfectly imperfect."
It seems to suit me as I have trouble
drawing a straight line.
I also like to be FREE when I paint and go wild
with strokes and color. I'm using Liquitex
acrylic paint and can't use a palette knife, so I'm back to brushes, but still love my knife.
I'll be hanging on to this one...we had good times
at the carnival...the Ferris Wheel,. Ring Toss,
and Dynamite Sandwiches!
It's summer and it's Carnival Time at Park Square!

"Little English Cottage"

"Little English Cottage"

I had a very good day yesterday!
I watched all four days of the Open Championship that was full of memorable moments we will never see again...thinking about Tiger walking over the bridge on 18 and walking to the green as Rory tipped his cap to him...well, tears came...it was so emotional.
My father was English and Scot-Irish and so the love of the UK resides within me. I have always loved the freedom and wild nature of the English gardens all around the sweet cottages that dot the landscape. So after the end of yesterday's final round I was inspired to paint. I chose to paint a little cottage in the "wonky" style I am learning by an artist through an online course I'm taking. Done in acrylics on a painted black background and using Liquitex paint I've never used before. I worked on this for an hour and a half and had to quit as my brain was getting "wonky" as well! I can only paint that long per session. I did what I am being taught...to have fun and enjoy the freedom of painting imperfectly! No rules...no fussing or going back to improve...just have fun...paint with freedom and it's done. :)
I posted this on FB and the art FB group loves it...that really is the best when you have support doing what you create. It feels so good. I'll choose another "something" soon to paint - I was attracted to this style of painting and so happy I decided to learn how to paint this way.
~ "Wonky" means "imperfectly beautiful" ~

New Paintings

I'm painting again...yay!  I recently joined an online art club with an artist who paints in a "wonky" style which she describes as beautifully imperfect. She asks that we don't share her style or sell any paintings we do from her lessons.  The paintings I'll be posting here are my own, and some painted on black canvas with Liquitex acrylic paint. The black background makes the colors POP!

"Valley Sun"
5 x 7 black wood panel done
in acrylics w/palette knife.

"Blue Cat"
8 x 8 abstract on blue canvas
done in the leftover acrylics
from "Valley Sun"

"The Old Red Fence"
11 x 14 black wood panel
 done in acrylics w/palette knife.

"Hidden Village"
8 x 10 abstract on white canvas
done in leftover acrylics from
 "The Old Red Fence."

Jasmine

I did a little art/craft project for our neighbors who are helping us this winter with snow removal and grocery shopping.  This is a print I found that is the spitting image of their, "Jasmine," a kitty that used to hang and run with, "Tabby Cat," a stray I fed for 4 years.  They are now both in spirit and hope they are having fun together, still. <3 <3  I painted the background with palette knife and attached the print and covered with Mod Podge.  Hope they like it!  :)

It was enjoyable and I think I'll print out images of my pets now in spirit and do the same...I will need an entire gallery to hang them all.  :)
