"Hobbit Door"
(9 x 12 acrylic on canvas)
This is the first painting from the new online art course I'm taking from @ChrisBradleyArt. It is a year's course with new paintings to challenge us each month. I'm enjoying learning from Chris. The course is called, "Unlocking Color Secrets." She uses a wet-on-wet technique. I paint in acrylics so it's tricky and I need 2 sessions to complete a painting after watching 2 videos first, so I watch one day...sketch another day...paint twice the last day. Although she calls this, "Hobbit Door," she took the picture on a trip to the Cotswolds in England and knows it's a church. The odd thing is, I used this exact image of the whole church as my logo when I had my "Three Lights Sanctuary" art and gift shop! It is a well known picture...she met someone who told her a story about this being a "hobbit door," and so she decided to name it that rather than after the church. I loved painting this and it's posted on the group FB page. More paintings to come. I have a bonus painting to do before the end of January called, "Rose Cottage." I'm already thinking about what colors to use for the stone cottage..."rose" would be too predictable even though it's probably named after the climbing roses all over the cottage, and how many others will paint it rose? :) I'm going to do some research but know it has to have "color" in it because she teaches the use of color in this course...any less is boring!
